Morena is a knowledgeable and experienced völva. She has great authority in the surrounding lands and is also the village elder. She has long white hair with braids and a long blue cloak. Her eyes are brown-greenish in color. She always carries a long staff and a number of pouches at her belt.
Morena does not have a family, instead she runs a small village and one of the more important sacred places in the region. A small group of body guards is accompanying her at all times. She keeps a small flock of ravens, which she trains to send messages and help her in other ways.
Morena had been living on a remote island before she came to this village. Her mother had been educating her to become a völva and she helped her mother to carry out rituals for nobles and common folk alike. One day after a ritual ceremony she was asked to work for a high regarded noble. She agreed on the position as a priestess and moved to a sacred place on his lands. After several years of dedicated service she became a trusted advisor of the village elder who lived close by. When the village elder died without any heir she was appointed by the local althing and inherited the position.
Today she rules over the village and oversees the rituals practices at the sanctuary. She has organized the village and sanctuary very well and these places have flourished under her leadership. It is somewhat uncommon for a völva as she does not travel a lot across the land. Instead many people come to see her for advice, blessings and rituals. Trade and wealth in the village have increased tremendously and thus protection has been ramped up to keep the peace.
Morena is a strong practitioner of rituals and has good knowledge of healing and scrying. She controls a lot of security forces, and her great hall on a hill dominates the landscape. She has a few powerful items like her staff and a small golden sphere. Her primary skills are healing and recovery, her secondary skill is weather forecasting. Patrols are abundant and workings on a pallisade have begun last month, these already cover a quarter of the village.
Morena has a number of assets, a sanctuary (pick a random card), a village (pick a random card), 2+ horses, 5+ ravens, 2 huskarl bodyguards and 3 huskarl henchmen in the form of retinues. She owns 25 silver and has an income of 15 silver. Her village has to be discovered and explored first, as it is located in unknown lands.

Morena has 2 patrol groups these are normal karl warriors (warband cards of 5 people). She frequently uses her ravens to send messages and get information to or from the borders. Her huskarl bodyguards are shown here, these are trained and professional warriors. Beware of their high attributes they are not to be trifled with and some can use maneuver cards.
Scenarios & quests
Morena the völva priestess is the fifth and last tutorial scenario. She has a tough difficulty and can be challenging when the players attack her village. She can heal her servants and warriors and can take advantage of the weather especially when close to the sea. The number of henchmen and bodyguards scale with number of players. Preferably the starting area for players is Denmark or Norway or perhaps England. The map area can be adjusted to suit the duration of play. Good starting areas for Morena are Ireland, Scotland or Iceland. A special power resides in her staff, when a player gets hit with more then 3 points it is knocked out for one combat turn. As a last resort she can use her golden sphere to get away from combat leaving the players behind to deal with the others. She can be added as a villain as a side quest but be aware that it can prolong the game substantially.
